Looking for a grand place to stay on a Grand Canyon road trip? The Grand Canyon Inn in Williams, Arizona is located only about 20 minutes from the Grand Canyon’s south entrance, making it a convenient place to spend the night before or after visiting the National Park.
Grand Canyon Inn is part of a family-run hospitality company whose history spans four generations. In the 1950s the family moved to Arizona from Canada to build the first Grand Canyon Inn and Restaurant. In 1977 they moved to the current location and rebuilt the complex that stands today. They continued to expand into the 90s and now the motel features 101 rooms for guests on their way too or from the national park.
The property features roomy non-smoking rooms with free WiFi and you’ll have access to an on-site restaurant, a lounge with a bar and TVs, a seasonal outdoor pool, and a communal microwave.
For Route 66 road trippers, this Arizona hotel is only about 30 miles from the heart of Williams and is located right across the street from one of my favorite weird roadside attractions, Flintstones Bedrock City, a retro themed-park based off one of America’s favorite vintage cartoons.
An on-site family restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu of entrees like steaks, hamburgers, salads, pastas, quesadillas, and pizza. And their bar serves a variety of spirits and local craft beers. There’s also a gas station right out front to fuel up your car, but be warned that gas prices this close to the Grand Canyon are much higher than elsewhere.
I booked a room at the Grand Canyon Inn on my Route 66 road trip through New Mexico and Arizona. Since I only had a half day to explore the national park, I knew I wanted to stay somewhere that was convenient to an entrance, and would allow me to rest up and get to the park early without having a long commute in the morning.
It ended up being a perfect choice, I explored Flintstones Park in the afternoon then drove right across the road to check in. I spent the rest of the night relaxing in my room and grabbed some creamy mushroom and chicken pasta for dinner at the on-site restaurant. The next morning I was able to hit the road bright and early to get to the Grand Canyon before the crowds.
The front desk is open from 7am-9pm, so make arrangements if you plan to arrive late. Those who like to hit the road early (like I did) can check out by dropping their keys in a drop box outside the main entrance.
