SAY CHEESE! If there is one thing Wisconsin is known for, it’s cheese! And boy does the state like to celebrate it, often with a cheese shop on every corner! While I’m sure cheese shops are not unique to the state of Wisconsin, they certainly aren’t hard to find there. Because of the plethora of options, many cheese stores go to the extreme to make sure that they stand out above the rest. One such shop is in Windsor, Wisconsin: Mousehouse Cheesehaus (AKA the mouse house cheese house). Not only does the name kind of rock, but it has a cute little (OK big) mouse that sits on its roof! The big mouse sports a red shirt and blue pants and he nibbles on a big piece of cheddar while watching over the parking lot.
With a facade like that, how can you not stop in and nibble a sample (or 20) of cheese?

The Road Trip Journal & Activity Book
Enjoy fun games and challenges to pass the time on your next road trip and have a keepsake to look back on for years to come with this entertaining must-have for your next vacation.

The mouse house Wisconsin opened in 1988 and has been family owned and operated ever since. The store owners pride themselves on stocking their shelves with the finest Wisconsin cheese, sausage, fudge, and specialty goods and work directly with factories to do so. They even store cheese in special coolers to age it for up to 11 years.

When checking out the giant mouse at the Mouse House cheese shop, don’t forget to stop inside and pick up a snack for yourself. What should you get? Definitely try the cheddar curds (I liked the mixed bag of orange and white)! Cheese curds are a Wisconsin delicacy known for their rubbery squeaky texture. They taste sharp and delicious! Plus they fit nicely in your car door compartment for easy snacking (or the cooler in your trunk if you plan to save them for later)! It’s perfect road trip snack for any hungry traveler.

Just make sure you sneak any cheese curds you buy out past the giant mouse roadside attraction who lives on the cheese house roof…he might try to grab them from you! How else do you think he got that big of a slice of cheese???

2008 Photos from Mousehouse Cheesehaus in Windsor, Wisconsin:
I had the pleasure of previousy visiting Mousehouse Cheesehaus on a road trip from Chicago to Mount Rushmore in 2008. Here’s what the cheese shop and Wisconsin roadside attraction used to look like way back then! As you can see from the newer photos above, the shop (and the mouse!) have since gotten quite the face lift!
