The Road Trip Journal & Activity Book
Enjoy fun games and challenges to pass the time on your next road trip and have a keepsake to look back on for years to come with this entertaining must-have for your next vacation.
The shop opened in 1949 and quickly became a must-stop attraction for Route 66 travelers. Its popularity was made possible partially by the series of roadside billboards lining the road between Missouri and Arizona. The bright yellow ads featured a black silhouette of a rabbit along with the distance you were away from the attraction, which got smaller and smaller the closer you got. The final double sided sign read “HERE IT IS” and still stands outside the location today.

The marketing tactic was conceived by the original owner, James Taylor (no, not that James Taylor) and is a technique still used today by the likes of Wall Drug and Buc-ee’s. In fact, while driving I-40 in Arizona you won’t be able to miss the yellow billboards for Jack Rabbit Trading Post lining the road that beckon Route 66 travelers to pull over to explore the roadside attraction.
The Route 66 souvenir shop is still open today and is a popular stop for road trippers looking to buy some mementos and take Instagram photos with the famous “HERE IS IS” sign or the mountable fiberglass jackrabbit (and don’t worry, there’s a step behind it and a footrest to help you mount it with ease).

Hop to it and be sure to add Jack Rabbit Trading Post to your Route 66 road trip itinerary!
