There’s a giant fiberglass cowboy statue in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. It’s located just around the corner from the larger than life Sinclair Dinosaur and lives outside of Knuckleheads Family Entertainment Center and Buffalo Phil’s Restaurant and Arcade a theme restaurant that itself is a road trip destination: the food is delivered by train.
But back to that big cowboy. The fiberglass giant sports bright blue jeans, a red buttoned shirt, and a brown vest. There’s a holster slung around his waist and a blue kerchief tied around his neck. His black mustache curls up ever so slightly. His brown cowboy hat shades his head. In his right hand he holds a 6-shooter gun. In his left, a lasso.

This big cowboy has been in the Wisconsin Dells area since at least the late nineties. He used to be located at a shopping center, then at the Lake Delton Mobil Travel Mart, but fell into disrepair and, for a while, was lying on his back, discarded, behind the travel mart. Around 2009 the cowboy was repainted (his shirt used to be checkered, his vest tan, and his hat white) and moved to it’s current location.
While some call this Wisconsin Dells roadside attraction a cowboy muffler man, I’m not so convinced. He doesn’t have the typical hand positioning (with the right palm facing up and left facing down) that true International Fiberglass muffler men have. His jawline isn’t as chiseled. He just looks too off brand to be a real muffler man. (Click here to check out the authentic Cowboy Muffler Man in Wendell, Idaho, for contrast.)
Though International Fiberglass has made custom creations, it’s also possible that this not quite muffler man (also known as mutant muffler man) was a more recent knock off by FAST Fiberglass in Sparta, Wisconsin, meant to mimic the original advertising icons.
Whether this giant fiberglass gunslinger in Wisconsin Dells is a true muffler man or not, it’s still worth wrangling up the family and giving this Wisconsin Dells roadside attraction a shot.
