Looking for a unique Route 66 selfie you’ll find nowhere else on The Mother Road? Stand under the World’s Largest Route 66 Sign in Springfield, Illinois. Find it outside Route 66 Motorheads Bar and Grill & Museum!
Pull into the restaurant’s parking lot and look up, way up, to find a 32-foot-by-32-foot aluminum Route 66 sign perched on top of two 60-foot tall poles that once held an original Stuckeys truck stop sign. It’s so big that it even outdoes the one in front of the National Route 66 Museum in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Enjoy fun games and challenges to pass the time on your next road trip and have a keepsake to look back on for years to come with this entertaining must-have for your next vacation.
The sign was made to mimic the iconic shield signs that pave the way along the Mother Road. It features the restaurant’s name, Motorheads, prominently spanning the top, with a big “66” in the body. Reflective pieces line the sides, giving the sign some sparkle in the wind.
The World’s Largest Route 66 Sign was designed, manufactured, and fabricated by Ace Sign Company (the same company who created the signs at the Route 66 Experience at the Illinois State Fairgrounds) and was officially unveiled on Friday, August 14, 2020.
While the sign currently stands alone, hovering high in the sky, a new roadside attraction will soon be erected underneath it. Coming soon a new custom 26-foot tall muffler man will be placed beneath the sign.
After stopping outside to take photos under the World’s Largest Route 66 Sign, be sure to make room in your road trip itinerary to stop inside Route 66 Motorheads Bar and Grill & Museum to grab a bite to eat (try the horseshoe!) and a cold drink and to explore all the vintage signs and memorabilia in their Route 66 museum.
