A sister to the world famous restaurant the Big Texan Motel in Amarillo, Texas features 54 units and a Western theme.
Outside, the Route 66 hotel is designed to mimic an old west town’s main street. The colorful facade faeatures shuttered windows and detailed porticos with signs like “Cattlemen’s Hotel” and “Longhorn Hotel.”
Booking.comInside the Western theme continues with bood touches, Texas stars, longhorn decor, and more. Room sizes range from standard doubles to large studios.
Being my last night heading west on Route 66 (I was only going as far as the Route 66 midpoint this trip), I decided to splurge on the Deluxe Studio Suite, which the woman at the front desk referred to as the “Honeymoon Suite.” The large room had a spacious living area with a TV, a big bed I needed a step stool to crawl into, a cowhide bench, and window views of the crowds waiting to dig into a steak dinner.
Amenities include free WiFi, guest services, a 24-hour front desk, daily housekeeping, and laundry facilities. There’s even a Texas-shaped hotel for guests to cool off in (it was, unfortunately, closed when I was there).
If you’re stopping in Amarillo, Texas on a Route 66 road trip or need a big nap after gorging on a big steak dinner, the Big Texan Motel offers a comfy night sleep with the ultimate convenience.
