I decided to take a SPUR of the moment day trip from Dallas this weekend. I headed to Denton to visit The Chairy Orchard (and go to my first Buc-ee’s) and to Gainesville to see the Giant Horse Chess Piece and Glenn Goode’s Big People. Of course, while I was in town I also had to stop at this Texas roadside attraction: the Big Spurs in Gainesville, Texas.
Located in a front yard, the big spurs advertise the business RT Custom Bit & Spur — and they actually spin!
The Road Trip Journal & Activity Book
Enjoy fun games and challenges to pass the time on your next road trip and have a keepsake to look back on for years to come with this entertaining must-have for your next vacation.
Spurs are small metal tools that attach to the back heel of riding boots and are used to aid in directing horses while riding. While this might not be the biggest roadside attraction I’ve ever seen, if you compare it to the original object it is based on, these giant spurs are axtually incredibly oversized! I mean, you’d need a pretty big pair of cowboy boots (perhaps even the World’s Largest Cowboy Boots in San Antonio) and, for that matter, an even bigger horse, to use them!
