There are several murals that claim to be the “World’s Longest Map of Route 66” or the “World’s Largest Map of Route 66,” each one creatively outlining the journey from Santa Monica, California to Chicago, Illinois in paint. And this Route 66 Map Mural in Holbrook, Arizona is no different.
You can find this Route 66 map mural across from Butterfield Stage Co Steak House (it even advertises the restaurant across the top) and Wigwam Motel in Holbrook.

The mural in Holbrook depicts a long staggering line dotted with names of major cities and towns along the route. In the center is a black and white Route 66 shield flanked by the words “MOTHER ROAD.” Looking to the left is the heart of the mural, a cutout painting of the steakhouse and some petrified wood with the exclamation, “YOU ARE HERE!” An adjoining part of the mural also features a tribute to petrified wood in Arizona!
Some have described this Holbrook mural as the World’s Longest Map of Route 66. But is it really the longest? Maybe not. You can also find one World’s Longest Map of Route 66 at El Trovatore Motel in Kingman, Arizona. Previously there was also another, done by Bob Waldmire, at the now abandoned Trading Post in Meteor City.
While in Holbrook you can also find another Route 66 map as part of the Joe & Aggie’s Cafe Pink Route 66 Mural, though that one is definitively smaller.
