To mark 100 years of the Mother Road in 2026, Route 66 Centennial Monuments are being installed in communities all along the historic highway. These 16-foot-tall structures celebrate the spirit and legacy of Route 66 with double-sided, LED-lit shields that proudly display the state’s abbreviation and the “1926–2026 Centennial” mark.
Each monument includes a display box noting its exact location (whether it’s a town, neighborhood, or roadside attraction) and a QR code that leads to a webpage full of stories, history, and things to do nearby. They’re perfect photo ops and meaningful markers of the road’s long and winding story.

The Route 66 Centennial Monument in El Reno, Oklahoma, marks the intersection of two historic 1926 highways: Route 66 and US Route 81. Located in Petree Plaza next to the El Reno Mother Road Monument, it highlights the city’s legacy as the “Crossroads of America,” where travel and trade routes have long converged. This striking marker invites visitors to explore El Reno’s railroad roots, iconic fried onion burger tradition, and the trails that predate the Mother Road itself.
