Joe’s Route 66 Diner in Strafford, Missouri, serves up classic comfort food and retro vibes, bringing a taste of the 1950s to the Mother Road.
The diner first opened in the 1970s as the M and P Drive-In. A few years later, Joe Waugh took over, and while ownership has changed hands over the years, the name “Joe’s” has stuck around. Today, the diner is owned and operated by Kaitlyn McCarty-Sconce and her husband, Wes Sconce, who purchased the restaurant in 2021.

Determined to honor its roots, the couple brought back original recipes from the diner’s heyday and make everything from scratch.
The small menu—displayed on a classic black-and-white board behind the counter—is full of made-to-order American favorites: juicy hamburgers, hand-breaded pork tenderloins, crispy chicken sandwiches, coney dogs, fresh-cut fries, and golden hand-battered onion rings. A daily special keeps things fresh and gives both locals and road trippers a reason to return.
