Classic cars and Route 66 go hand in hand. So it’s only fitting that this monument to the Mother Road is made out of a material taken straight from those vehicles that might have traversed that classic road. The Hubcaps on Route 66 Sculpture in Springfield, Missouri pays homage to the city’s place on the Main Street of America in a unique way.
The Hubcaps on Route 66 Sculpture was created by Joe and Terry Malesky of New Adventure Sculptures LLC. It was installed at the Northeast corner of Broadway Ave and College St on September 22, 2020, as part of Sculpture Walk Springfield, the city’s “museum without walls” that places permanent and temporary works of art around the city.

The stainless steel sculpture features two giant sixes (“66”) adorned with a variety of hubcaps. It was meant to capture the memories that all the hubcaps on all the cars might have seen while traveling on Route 66. Located just down the block from the Birthplace of Route 66 Roadside Park, it’s a fitting addition to Springfield, the Birthplace of Route 66.
