Buckle up, there’s a new roadside wonder rollin’ onto Route 66, and it’s wheely something special! Drive-through Route 66 signs have become some of the most popular photo ops along the Mother Road, with fun and interactive installations in places like Grants, New Mexico, and Kingman, Arizona. And now, there’s a new sign to add to your must-see Route 66 bucket list! Drive through the new Drive-Through Route 66 Sign in Galena, Kansas!
This Galena sign stands at an impressive 16 feet tall and has a 10-by-10-foot cutout in the middle—just the right size for cars, motorcycles, and small trucks to drive through for a unique souvenir snapshot. Created by artists Sandra Dawn and David Mason, the sign features colorful artwork on one side, with a bright sunflower field to represent Kansas’s nickname, “The Sunflower State,” and a familiar-looking tow truck driving through the scene, based off the real inspiration for Tow Mater from the movie Cars, which you can find just down the block at Cars on the Route. On the reverse side, a clean white background with a bold black outline reading “Kansas US” serves as a canvas for future projections.
