There are Sinclair dinosaurs and then there are Sinclair dinosaurs. There are the ones that you happen upon at the side of the road, ones that are a welcome surprise when looking for gas. And then there are the ones you seek out, true bucket list roadside attractions. There’s the Sinclair Dinosaur in Sinclair, Wyoming (home of the oil refinery). There’s the dinosaur-shaped gas station in Spring Hill, Florida. And then there’s this: the giant Sinclair dinosaur in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
Towering above the gas pumps, what is perhaps the world’s largest Sinclair Dinosaur protrudes from the convenience store facade. The bright-green cartoon-like brontosaurus stands at at least 40 feet tall and his goofy smile welcomes tourists who are visiting the Dells and drivers who just need to fill up their tanks. His legs frame the store’s door so you can walk through them when you need to grab a bottle of soda or a bag of chips.

The green Sinclair dinosaur has served as the Sinclair Oil Corp. mascot since 1933 and this larger-than-life version fits right in to the wacky surrounding of Wisconsin Dells. The Dells are known for their go big or go home attitude, so, when your neighbors include the Museum of Historic Torture Devices, an upside-Down White House, Wizard Quest, Ghost Outpost, the world’s largest flamingo, and a giant cowboy, a “regular-sized” dino wasn’t going to do. Considering the surroundings, this giant dino is actually pretty normal.
This half-dino (alas there is no dinosaur butt protruding out the back end of the store) was created by by FAST Corporation and has stood since at least 2006. The Wisconsin roadside attraction original served the local Sinclair station. Sometime between 2015 and 2016 the filling station near Lake Denton changed hands and it’s now a CITGO station (known as Dyno Stop II).
Whenever a business attached to a roadside attraction shuts down, there is always fear that the attraction will go with it. So far, this giant dinosaur statue still stands. Let’s just hope it stays that way. Because this dino-mite creature saurs above the rest! Check out more photos of the giant Sinclair dinosaur:
