This Illinois roadside attraction might just be a cut above the rest — it’s the world’s largest barbershop pole in Casey, Illinois.
Casey’s world’s largest barbershop pole was created by resident big thing builder Jim Bolin who made all twelve Guinness World Record holding objects in town. It was certified as world’s largest on September 28, 2019, along with the World’s Largest Key, World’s Largest Gavel, World’s Largest Teeter Totter, World’s Largest Golf Driver, and World’s Largest Swizzle Spoon.
You can find the world’s largest barber pole in front of Tina’s Barber Shop in town. At 14 feet tall and 3 feet 11 inches wide, this Illinois roadside attraction is a hair above ten times the size of the standard. But, does that really make it the world’s largest?
There are other roadside attractions out there that proclaim themselves to be the world’s largest barbershop pole. And, I’ll admit, they are big, even bigger than the one in Casey. The World’s Largest Barber Pole in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin is as tall as a house and the World’s Tallest Barber Shop Pole in Forest Grove, Oregon reaches far into the sky at a whopping 70-feet.
But here’s the catch: while impressive, those roadside attractions are just wooden structures with red, white, and blue stripes painted on. They might look like giant barber poles but they aren’t actually giant barber poles at all. But Casey’s roadside attraction is a large, mechanical, fully functioning barber pole.
Maybe we’re just splitting hairs, but with form and function, no other roadside attraction has Casey’s beat.
