Did I ever mention that I have a thing for men with beards? Well, I do. Especially tall (really tall), dark, and handsome men with beards. Men like the L.P. Anderson Co. muffler man in Billings, Montana. He’s just perfect, right?
This dreamboat is a Paul Bunyan-style lumberjack muffler man. Aside from his thick dark beard, he wears a bright green cap, white button down shirt, blue jeans, and black boots. In his right hand he holds an actual, life-size tire, one that looks like a diminutive toy in his giant fiberglass hand.
The giant lumberjack has lived outside of the L.P. Anderson tire store since 1964/5. Frank Bonogofsky, the then owner, paid $200 for this big guy at a national tire dealer convention in California. It was apparently damaged in transit but the shopping company took responsibility and paid to have his repaired.
Created by International Fiberglass, he was one of many advertising giants being cranked out at the time in various sizes, expressions, and themes.
This muffler man has it all. Beard. Check. Impeccable build. Check. Good job selling tires. Check. And, well, he’s even a movie star! The Montana muffler man made his feature film debut in the 2013 film Nebraska, which features a road trip from Montana to Nebraska.
Talk about the perfect man. Sigh.
