Muffler Man number two this week stands outside Lauterbach Auto Service in Springfield, Illinois. While the Lauterbach Tire Muffler Man looked perfectly fine when I met him in 2007 (as pictured here), he had earlier undergone some tragedy: he lost his head when a tornado flew through town. Thankfully his decapitation was clean cut and he has since been restored to beyond his former glory, and he proudly waves an American flag, beckoning roadside travelers to come say hello.
