Theis snack mix recipe combines dried apples with caramel baking chips and peanuts. I added some extra white and milk chocolate chips for a decadent punch, but feel free to leave those out for a more simple flavor or to substitute your favorite chocolate or candies. It’s sweet, a little salty, and has just enough tang to hit all the right fall notes.

Autumn is one of my favorite times to take a road trip. It’s not as hot as a summer road trip so you can crack the windows instead of blasting the AC and you don’t have to worry about melting at the World’s Largest Popsicle or returning from Carhenge to a blazing hot car.

It’s also the best time for a scenic drive to take in the breathtaking views of the crackling, changing leaves. Plus there are plenty of opportunities to take a long drive to go leaf peeping, navigate a corn maze, be frightened at a haunted house, or pick out the perfect pumpkin.

One of my favorite autumn activities is apple picking and when I go apple picking, I always get a gooey caramel apple coated with rich caramel and a sprinkling of peanuts. But since caramel apples are a bit messy to have in the car and hard to eat while driving, this caramel apple trail mix is the perfect substitute, with all of the flavor in a convenient-to-eat package.

Wherever your fall road trip takes you, it’s always a good idea to pack snacks. This caramel apple snack mix comes together in five minutes and is just the right snack to pack in your road trip snack box for your drive among the golden autumn leaves.
